Winter Touring

by Mary Hamilton | Sep 14, 2014

Once upon a time, a campervan holiday was something only to be undertaken in the warmer months. The motorhomes and campervans available in New Zealand were simply not made for cold or wet conditions. Luckily for RV enthusiasts, all that has changed. It’s now possible to enjoy year-round RV touring in New Zealand thanks to the innovations and comfort features of companies such as Bürstner. Manufactured in Germany, Bürstner motorhomes are built to be comfortable in below zero temperatures. They include such features as double glazed windows, full insulation and bathrooms that convert to a drying room for things like towels and ski gear. And there’s more – these European-designed winter-friendly motorhomes have heaters that work on gas or 240V so even when you're freedom camping you'll be cosy. With the front wheel drive handling extremely well in snowy conditions, Bürstner motorhomes are not only comfortable, they’re a dream to drive.

But don’t take our word for it. David and Gina recently took a Bürstner motorhome, from our sister company Wilderness, away to the South Island and sent us this feedback (and these lovely pictures): “We both thoroughly enjoyed our trip to NZ and just loved the motorhome, the gas heater worked really well and had plenty of lovely hot water for showers. Even on icy roads like when we headed into Arthur’s Pass and also our trip into Arrowtown and Akaroa on the windy and steep roads the vehicle drove really well.

New Zealand is renowned for its wonderful alpine scenery. When you take a winter holiday in your motorhome, you can have the luxury of a different, spectacular mountain vista every day from your toasty-warm home-on-wheels. What an amazing way to see our beautiful country. Even better, you’ll find that in the cooler months there are less tourists around so the roads are less busy, and there’s a chance you’ll have some stunning camping spots all to yourself. So why not get the best seat in the house and try a winter motorhome holiday?
