Things are a little quiet around the SmartRV office this week because two of our directors are overseas attending a very special event – the Caravan Salon.
The Caravan Salon bills itself as the world’s largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans. It takes place in the German city of Düsseldorf every year around the end of August. Running for over a week, the show features everything RV-related you can think of, and is a mecca for anyone passionate about motorhomes, camper vans or caravans.
In case you’re wondering just how large it is, this mega-show attracts over 160,000 visitors from nearly 40 countries - mind-boggling numbers, when you consider that the popular Camper Care Motorhome & Caravan Show in Hamilton this year attracted 15,000 visitors. Around 40,000 of the visitors stay overnight in their own caravans or motor homes at the on-site Caravan Centre. That’s quite a party!
The Caravan Salon features almost 600 exhibitors from over 25 countries, and even has a special kid’s programme including an adventure park with games and activities. A particular highlight of this year’s Caravan Salon is the canoe test track, where visitors have the opportunity to explore a real river in canoes and kayaks.
So why do our directors travel all the way to Europe for a motorhome show? Well, aside from the fact that it sounds like a lot of fun– it’s also because attending a show like the Caravan Salon is the easiest way to see all the very best motorhomes on the planet, all in one place. The show will feature the latest innovations in motorhome design and technology and is the perfect way for us to research the myriad of models and features that are available, to determine which ones will work best in New Zealand conditions, and on New Zealand roads – and that’s how we ensure the motorhomes we bring into New Zealand for you are the very best motorhomes currently available anywhere in the world.
We look forward to sharing our discoveries from the Caravan Salon with you, and no doubt we’ll have some stories to tell from our European motorhome adventures too. We’ll also be announcing our 2015 models shortly, so watch this space!
